The Prosecutor also represents the Shelby County Department of Job and Family Services, Children's Services Division, in cases of alleged child abuse, neglect and dependency. The prosecutor's goal in such cases is to ensure the safety and well-being of Shelby County's children through pursuing complaints, requesting protective supervision, temporary custody, legal custody, permanent custody, and other arrangements made in the best interest of the subject children.
Once a complaint is filed, the prosecutor represents the agency at all stages of litigation from adjudication through disposition and termination of the case. Representation extends to appeals made to the 3rd District Court of Appeals, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
